Artist Statement
Every day between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. from July 15, 2018 to August 15, 2018 I took photographs of the sky north of my house. Some of those images were used to create I’ve Looked at Clouds. The piece is a compilation of summer memories ranging from lying on my back in long grass finding pictures in clouds to hearing Chuck and Joni Mitchell perform at The Fourth Dimension in Winnipeg during the summer of 1966, to watching the clouds pass over my current home and leave no rain behind in the driest years. Despite the visual promise of moisture, the memories smell of heat and dust, and in the case of The Fourth Dimension, a now almost unimaginable amount of cigarette smoke.
