BRODY BURNS / presented by Assiniboia Gallery

Website: www.brodyburns.com / Instagram: @b_c_burns

Brody Burns is a Cree artist from Treaty 6 Territory, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Art had taken the form of graffiti and illustration in his teens. During elementary and high school, he was always doodling in class and didn't realize at the time that it would lead to something bigger. During his time at the University of Saskatchewan, studying psychology, he began to take art more seriously. Burns started to combine Indigenous ways of knowing with concepts in psychology and other fields of study. Spirituality, energy, and vibration are at the core of his artwork. He is interested in representing a combined perspective of Spirit and Science through abstract forms and colour.

HAILEY WEBER / presented by Dervilia art + design

Website: www.artbyhailey.net / Instagram: @artbyhaileyweber

Hailey Weber is a Saskatoon-based artist who explores life experiences through her large-scale mixed media works. She has recently attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Honours degree with the University of Saskatchewan (2023). Weber also plans to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree. She expertly connects viewers with their own memory and sense of belonging which is captured in her artwork; straddling the physical and non-physical spaces that we hold inside.

JINGLU ZHAO / presented by Grasslands Gallery Online

Website: www.zhaojinglu.com / Instagram: @zhaojinglustudio

JingLu Zhao combines figuration and landscape, making contemporary oil paintings about her cross-cultural family and their identity as they navigate the world. Born in China, JingLu received MFA degrees in both China and Japan, then taught visual art at Chengdu University until she moved to Canada in 2013. Here her experience of raising children with Chinese and First Nations heritage has become one of the central themes of her paintings.

GRACE HOWARD / presented by Hansen Ross House

Grace Howard’s first interest in felting began when she was given a wool wall hanging. Intrigued, she wanted to learn about the art and so the process began. She got in touch with friends who owned sheep. The fleece was skirted, the raw wool was washed,  then teased and carding was done. As she researched more, she fell in love with colours, wonky ideas and funky houses. Her passion in life is centred around being positive, stepping out of the box, and trying to hone a new skill. Grace resides in her hometown of Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan.

ORLANDA CHABOYER-FLETT / presented by On the Avenue

Orlanda Chaboyer-Flett is Métis/Cree iskwēw, originally from the Treaty 5 territory of Cumberland House, Saskatchewan. As a child, she watched her kōhkōms bead pieces for community members and was so intrigued at the detail, amount of work, and patience required to make beautiful pieces of art. While she lost interest for a time, Orlanda has recently learned to create earrings, moccasins (with guidance from her kōhkōm Philomene), gauntlets, and pins with porcupine quills, caribou tufts, birch bark, and hide. Orlanda believes we must relearn our traditions, take pride, be creative, and share our artwork with the world.

JASON MACZA / presented by Saskatchewan Craft Council

Website: www.jasonmacza.com / Instagram: @jasonmacza

Jason Macza is an imaginative abstract artist from Saskatchewan, Canada. His sculptural style is inspired by the way that the Saskatchewan Prairie shapes nature. Through multimedia design and the concept of creative destruction, Jason's artwork expresses his struggles with mental health and neurodivergence, offering glimpses into his experiences and perceptions of the world around him. With a diverse multi-media career covering animation, directing and VFX for TV and film, including an Emmy nomination, he began his full-time studio practice in Saskatoon in 2016. Currently, Jason focuses on creating immersive 2D and 3D worlds, and explores what resonates in the traces of “underneathness” within his materials and concepts.

FRANS LOTZ / presented by Slate Fine Art Gallery

Frans Lotz is interested in the relationship between people and manufactured objects in their environment. To achieve striking authenticity in his tiny versions of ubiquitous objects, Lotz labours over a coal-fired forge, turns wood on a lathe, and collaborates with graffiti and textile artists. Rendering gritty objects like dumpsters, tools, and fire escapes in a hyper realistic style, he uses rust stains, scratches, and other subtle details to evoke a narrative. His miniature works have been shown at the Art Gallery of Regina, Slate Fine Art Gallery and Art Toronto. He has participated in the Emma International Collaboration and his work has been featured in Galleries West.

Lotz, who was born in South Africa, is a sculptor currently based on Treaty 4 Territory in Regina, Saskatchewan. He earned a BFA in sculpture from the University of Regina in 2015 and worked as a studio assistant and printer for the late Joe Fafard.
